God places your life in the hands of others. He lets you go about your business, to an extent. But we confess tonight on this, if you have been taught that what is…is, that the soul and spirit were nothing more than fairy tales told to make children obey, if you have lived your life without believing in a day of judgment, does He still check in on you, does He know you even exist?
In my experience, when a person gives up a vice, they compensate the loss through over indulgence of another.
Beckala does not believe she has a soul. She was taught at an early age to believe in the family, in the provisional state, that looking for a higher power was a waste of energy, for none was looking back at her.
There is something special about Becky. She wants to believe, but nothing is that simple.
She wears a tiny Buddha around her neck for all the wrong reasons. Her mother told her once, while you are away, people will respect you, will take care of you if you show them this symbol.
You try getting someone to do something they don’t want to do. They may do it, but they won’t like you or what they had to do afterwards.
One vice is taken away, another rises to the occasion.
In a moment of weakness, she asks for direction. But there is no answer. She says to no one in particular, “You let me go. And I thank you for it.”
Faith is as simple as picking dandelions when you are young. There is not a lesson more impossible to learn when time has taken its toll on your soul.
